Steven Spielberg, one of the most influential personalities in film, was born on this day in 1946. Which one of the many films he directed do you call your favorite?
He has directed many incredible films, but no film has had more of a profound impact on my life than Jaws. I always assume that there is something that is going to eat me in any body of water larger than a wading pool. It is my all-time favorite scary movie.
Happy Halloween! What's your favorite scary movie?
Without a doubt, Jaws is my absolute favorite scary movie. To this day, I can't get into any body of water larger than a bathtub without this movie crossing my mind. It doesn't terrify me like it used to...ok, it probably totally would if I was in the ocean. Ok, I KNOW that it would if I was in the ocean, but it remains the best form of scary movie that I have ever come across. Mostly for its lasting appeal and its ability to grip me with fear to this day. Kudos to everyone involved in the film.
I would like to give an honorable mention to the Nightmare on Elm Street series. While I find them rather absurd now (except for Wes Craven's New Nightmare-which was brilliant!), they truly terrified me growing up. The concept of a killer who gets you when you fall asleep is extremely clever! Ahhh....good times. :-)
What's your most memorable scene from a movie?

I have to pull a cop out and name two. In no particular order, I would have to say the scene at the end of Braveheart where Wallace is about to die and he cries out "Freedom!" I think that that scene exemplifies what characteristics we appreciate in our heroes. That willingness to give all you have...that self-sacrifice...it is something that is almost impossible to imagine in our self-centered world.
The other scene is at the end of Titanic where Jack and Rose are saying goodbye. It speaks to me about the strength of the bond that two people can form when they are meant for each other. The timescale becomes irrelevant when the connection is that strong. There was genuine emotion in that scene. Truly remarkable.

Empathy.
What sound can't you stand?
Aside from the cliche of fingernails on the chalkboard, I have to say that the sound of a liquid pouring into a glass. I also hate the sound of people slurping a drink. It's strange that this was the Qotd, as I was just thinking about this last night.
What's your favorite scent?
I can't lie, there is something about Sweet Pea from Bath n Body Works that strikes a nerve with me. I triggers some primordial instinct within that definitely brings out my animal instincts.
I have to fight to suppress it. Seriously. It is a running joke at more than one job. I have friends who tease me mercilessly about it (not saying that it isn't warranted...).
The bottom line is that I <3 Sweet Pea. I won't disturb you any further. ;-)
What’s a simple thing you could do to save money, but are unwilling (or unable) to put to practice?

I could cut back on all of the soda that I drink. I have been trying to lately (from 15 cans a day to 3-4), but I am not too happy with the aftermath. I still get terrible headaches, and I feel like I have no energy. I have also cut out chocolate. No one who knows me would ever think that to be possible! I have to admit, however, that all I wanted to do last night at 3AM was run out and buy some M&M's!
How do you travel to and from work - personal vehicle, bus, subway/train, pedal power? What does it cost you per week in gas or fares?
Submitted by Jan.
I don't live very far from work. I do however, live a long ways from school. I have to drive 124 miles ONE WAY each day to class. I spend just over $250 a week in gas. It isn't pretty that is for sure!
Has anything unlucky happened to you today?
Yeah. I can't get to my truck at home because the road is blocked off due to two escaped convicts. The police have a couple square mile area locked down and there is no getting in or out. I have no idea when I can go home!
If you had to go on a two-week vacation with any celebrity, who would you pick as your traveling companion and where would you go?
I would pick Amanda Bynes. She is beautiful and her personality is in a different league than other celebrities. Hell, other people. You can tell by her interviews, behavior, even her movies that she is an earnest person with an awesome sense of humor. I also like that she doesn't have a high opinion of herself. I think it would be a blast!
