I Need a Vacation
There are times where I marvel at how busy I am, and what I am able to accomplish during a given day/week. Don't get me wrong, there are also times where I feel like a completely useless pile...
After taking this teaching position, I have to say that I love it, but I severely underestimated how much work it would be. There are 183 students in my class, and when you figure in that I have to create a lesson plan, develop the assignments, grade that many papers and quizzes, host lectures, and be available for the students, my time is in very short supply. With that said, I wouldn't have it any other way. Honestly, most students are oblivious and really seem like numbers (granted, it is still very early in the term), but already I feel that I have really helped some students begin to grasp things. Not only about the class, but about college and life in general. Its a pretty damn good feeling.
I also still work at Office Max part-time (30-38 hours) a week. But not for long! I will be done there soon! I will miss it, to be honest. I hate the job now-I didn't previously-but I work there because it reminds me of someone very important to me. I like the fact that I can turn a corner into an aisle and think of her. Moments like that get me through some hellacious days...
When you factor in that I am also a grad student, as well as taking classes at Stanford and MIT, it becomes much easier to see why I rarely sleep. For the few that know me, they know why that truly is, but I do like to keep busy. I also do my best to help people answer their tech questions at the www.helpfromageek.com site, and try to do a DJ show every other week. I also operate two podcasts each week, and guest on two others each week as well. I used to run a dear friend's website as well, but she wanted it taken down recently. It made me quite sad, as it was something that I quite enjoyed. The end of an era to be sure... :-(
I do find time to have fun (fun being relative of course...lol) however. I make sure to watch The Office, The Big Bang Theory, and The Life and Times of Tim each week. I also find time to read about topics that interest me as well. Currently, that is how the brain functions, and matters in astrophysics (the creation of matter) and worldwide energy policy. I play videogames when possible, and am now playing Fable 2, which is totally fantastic. It is the best thing to come from Britain in a long time! ;-) I also try to watch a series or two whenever possible to give myself a breather. I am back into John Adams and Ghost in the Shell again. They blow my mind with their quality!
I also find that I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about a beautiful young lady who completely rocks my world! She has had a paradigm shifting effect upon me, and I think that she is absolutely amazing. Plus she is beautiful! <3 you!
